Due to recent concerns from parents, we have clarified our hot weather policy - please read the letter sent today on Arbor, which included the following information: - BLAZERS: Our recent wording about BLAZERS was slightly misleading and does not reflect the school's actual expectations. To be clear: We are NOT instructing students to wear their blazers to and from school during this hot weather. Rather, we are asking that students have their blazers with themwhether worn or carriedso they are available if needed, particularly for formal occasions such as assemblies or events. - SCHOOL BAGS: Please provide your child with a school bag. Many rely on their blazer pockets to carry pens and essential equipment. Ensuring students bring a school bag, blazer, and refillable water bottle is a key part of helping them to be well-prepared for the school day. Please check with your child, that they have a bag and use it appropriately. - HOT WEATHER: We are actively managing the temperatures in class rooms and have made appropriate adjustment. Some classrooms remain cool, even too cold in places, due to air conditioning. Others are warm, and we are working with staff and students to use our many shaded and cooler areas around the site. We are encouraging students to make sensible choices. Many continue to run around at break and lunchtime in direct sun, then report feeling hot and bothered in lessonsoften without having brought water or refilled their bottles, despite clear opportunities to do so. Please speak with your child about making sensible choices to avoid becoming hot. - WATER BOTTLES: Regrettably, we also continue to see a lack of parental support for our water policy. Too many students arrive without bottles, and some do not take responsibility for refilling them during designated break times. I kindly ask for your help in reinforcing these expectations at home so that your child is equipped for learning and able to manage the warmer conditions sensibly. I would also like to address a false rumour: water was available throughout SPORTS DAY, and students were given the opportunity to refill bottles throughout the event. We also reminded parents about the need for sun protection and water.

Our Year 8 Students enjoyed a science trip to the Observatory Science Centre in East Sussex last week, which included science activities, a telescope tour and an interactive space themed science show. Students overcame gravity and stopped speeding space debris, and Mr Beadle was protected from the heat of re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere using special tiles from a Russian space rocket.

This summer residents of the South East will come to Rochester to help celebrate the birthday of one of our most important and oldest historical artefacts: the Magna Carta. This document, which shaped the political landscape of Britain, turns 800 this year! Did you know that Rochester Castle played a role in the signing of the Magna Carta? They will be celebrating this all summer with their Summer of Siege.
